Before FinerRings became a cult-loved Australian jewellery brand with stores in Melbourne and Sydney, Taiba Ash was standing at a major crossroads. She was working full-time, preparing to leave her job and pursue a career in nursing—until a dose of financial reality (and a healthy streak of millennial resourcefulness) sparked a new path entirely. What began as a side hustle to support her through nursing studies quickly turned into a thriving business. Fast forward to today, and FinerRings has evolved from market stalls and online launches to brick-and-mortar success, with a flagship on Chapel Street and a network of over twenty national stockists.
In this edition of My Style, we speak with Taiba about building a business from the ground up, her love of elevated basics, and why linen, layering, and a trusty flat iron are all part of her signature look. From mixing metals to finding inspiration in seasonal shifts, Taiba shares the everyday rituals and fashion philosophies that shape her understated yet impactful aesthetic.

1. How would you describe your personal style?
My style is minimal—think linen, pure cotton, and monochromatic moments, styled with the perfect necklace and ring stack to create a look that feels effortless every day. I believe you can’t go wrong once you’ve built your own version of a capsule wardrobe—pieces that work together and wear beautifully over time. Recently, I have been gravitating towards an elevated basic on top, paired with a staple pant or skirt from COS – one of my long-time favourites.
2. What’s one piece in your wardrobe you’ll never part with and why?
My trusty Tony Bianco boots – I live in these throughout winter.
3. Which fashion rule do you always follow or love to break?
Definitely mixing metals, I know it’s on trend right now but I love the resurgence of Sterling Silver.
4. What’s inspiring you right now, on and off the runway?
I have been loving a suede moment, and as well I have been really leaning into the shift of seasons – obsessed with the darker, chocolate, brown tones for winter and cannot wait for Melbourne to get a little cooler.
5. What item or ritual do you swear by to feel confident every day?
Instilling confidence into my children reminds me everyday to be the best version of myself for my family. Item wise – my GHD flat iron, hair is also an accessory.
6. If you could dress anyone in your label, who would it be and what would they wear?
I know it sounds cliche and predictable, but to me an influential person in fashion is someone who would wear a label and everyone would immediately need it. In saying that, Kendall Jenner or Hailey Bieber are at the top of their game when it comes to creating a fashion movement. Dressing them in our handmade jewels would mean we’ve reached the level business owners dream of. Both girls would wear our ear stacking pieces or our layered necklaces clustered together beautifully. Making a statement in their simplicity, perfect for their style.
